{the berg}

We found this awesome gift and thrift store just outside Fouriesburg {Where's that you ask? why, it's in the middle of nowhere...}

My boyfriend and my brother found the vintage red Vespa parked outside... Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee:

 My dad's favourite find of the day: an old FORD car

 {and of course Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee..}

And then some random things found in and around the store:

The loos inside the store were just as intriguing.

 The awesome view from the verandah

 Felt like I was in a re-make of Bonny and Clyde every time I saw the car parked outside!

The shop cat - we asked if we could take her home, but were vehemently denied.  She had the softest fur, and was so friendly and loving!

The old cash register

And no small town thrift store would be complete without the old Singer sewing machine wilting outside in the sun

I went with my family up to the Drakensberg for the long weekend last week - we stayed just outside Clarens in the Free State, in amongst majestic mountains and hilltops.  We froze our butts off, but had a great time discovery the nearby towns.  This was our first stop, Fouriesburg.  A town with a population of about 10, but complete with a random thrift store, a burnt out FORD car, beautiful old settler houses {with wrap around verandahs, river stone walls and white shutters} and a fantastic view of the Drakensberg Escarpment.

The Berg is my FAVOURITE place to go in the winter time - I love the fires, the braais, the family time and of course time away from the big city.

We'll hopefully get there one more time before the warmer weather rolls back in later in the season.

More pics of Clarens {an awesome artist village in the middle of the Free State} to follow - it deserves it's own post.

xoxo,
Pippa
